Resist Spectra
BACKGROUND
Resist Spectra is the direct action sect of Stop The Algonquin Pipeline (SAPE) campaign against Spectra/Enbridge's fracked gas pipeline 105 feet away from critical infrastructure at Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant since 2014 in New York State. Governor Cuomo released an Independent Risk Assessment after years of public outcry of this pipeline proving that this pipeline is a danger to the NYC metropolitan area of 25 million people. It proves that our 5 year long campaign to halt this pipeline is justified.
So much has happened since our direct action campaign to halt the Spectra AIM Pipeline adjacent to Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant. We have been hard at work navigating state and federal agencies.
Finally, our persistent and strategic efforts led to The Office of the Inspector General releasing a report on their investigation of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's approval of the AIM Pipeline at Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant.
In short, this is a smoking gun and a validation of the work SEnRG has been doing since its inception.
Summary of findings:
1. NRC failed in numerous ways to properly analyze the situation before approving the pipeline construction
2. Indian Point Nuclear power plant may be operating in an unanalyzed condition* due to risks posed by the new 42-inch pipeline.
1. *Meaning the risks to the plant are unknown.
Now that we have formal proof, our next step is an online letter-writing campaign, and this is where we need YOUR help.
We have created an easy letter-generating prompt to the NYS Regulators to ask them to go directly to the federal pipeline safety agency to shut the gas off in the Spectra AIM pipeline and protect our entire region from an even larger health and safety crisis than we are already experiencing.
If COVID-19 teaches us anything, it is that being prepared, listening to science, and putting our health and safety at the center of our actions is the most important thing our government can do.
Please help us generate thousands of letters to Commissioner John Rhodes at the NYS Public Service Commission to make sure he listens to science and protects our health and safety to shut off the high-pressure fracked gas pipelines at Indian Point Nuclear power plant.
